Urban planners have been part of the city for decades but in the globalize world we are living in, managing the city can appears differently. As far as it goes, there are not one way to design and to plan the territory, therefore urban planners in developed countries do not have to face the same challenges of those encountered in the countries of the South part of the World. And yet there are great concepts that can inspire us and be utilized at an international level.
The purpose of Alternative Cities is to show different points of view in managing towns. Articles are related to main topics listed as following : Housing, Transport, Social, Energy and…Greenwashing! Are we satisfied by the world we are living in? What can we do about it?
Many projects to improve our quality of life are created, however depending on which aspects are more represented, the community can respond to it very differently. And what is the place remaining to the average Joe when it is time to make a decision?
France and Comoros are the countries I have selected. Why ? Because there are many links between them. In the past and currently. Moreover, activities of developed countries have repercussions all over the planet : Global warming is an example of those impacts.
Small developing islands are very vulnerable against climate changes. On another side the contrasted organization of their cities can highlight the diversitiy of urban planning worldwide.
Organizing the cities, nowadays, can be the best ultimate challenge of this century.
